Мартін Францішак

Martin Františák is a Czech theater director, playwright, and artistic director. Born in 1974 in Valašské Meziříčí, he grew up in nearby Karolinka. He studied dramatic directing at JAMU in Brno under the tutelage of Arnošt Goldflam. Throughout his extensive career, he has led several prestigious theaters. From 2005 to 2007, he served as the artistic director of the Polárka Theatre in Brno, followed by six successful years leading the Petr Bezruč Theatre in Ostrava. Between 2013 and 2018, he was the head of drama at the National Theatre Brno, and since the 2019/2020 season, he has been the artistic director of the Švandovo Theatre in Prague. In his writing, he often draws inspiration from the rugged and poetic landscape of his native Wallachia, reflected in plays such as Doma, Nevěsta, Děda, and Karla. He is also a long-standing leading figure of the Jan Honsa amateur theater ensemble in Karolinka, maintaining a strong connection to the regional theater scene.
