    Josef Abrhám

Josef Abrhám is a popular Czech actor beloved by audiences especially for his film and television roles — though his career began firmly on stage. After graduating from DAMU, he spent three seasons at the Vinohrady Theatre, and later found his artistic home at the Činoherní klub, where he also met his future wife, Libuše Šafránková. On Dramox, you can revisit his early years in the comedy Tři v tom. Abrhám briefly performed at the National Theatre as well, but from 1994 onward he appeared on stage only rarely and dedicated himself primarily to film acting. He became famous thanks to iconic films by the celebrated duo Smoljak–Svěrák, such as Marečku, podejte mi pero!, Kulový blesk, Trhák, Rozpuštěný a vypuštěný, Vrchní prchni!, Jára Cimrman Lying, Sleeping, I Served the King of England, Leaving, or Transport from Paradise. TV audiences adored him as MUDr. Arnošt Blažej in the legendary series Hospital at the End of the City. For his role as Prokop in Big Beat (Šakalí léta), he received the Czech Lion Award in 1994. In 2020, he was honoured with the Thalia Award for Lifetime Achievement. Josef Abrhám and Libuše Šafránková have one son, Josef Abrhám Jr.
