Dušan Ždímal

Dušan Ždímal (1945–2009) was an important Czech scenographer, architect and visual artist, best known for his long-term collaboration with the legendary Theatre Husa na provázku. Born in Brno, he became one of the most influential stage designers of the local theatre scene in the second half of the 20th century. His scenography was visually striking, spatially inventive and often defined the entire atmosphere of a production. As a core scenographer of Husa na provázku, he worked closely with major figures such as Bolek Polívka, Zdeněk Pospíšil, Peter Scherhaufer and Eva Tálská. Together, they helped shape the iconic “Provázek style”, which went on to influence both Czech and European experimental theatre. Ždímal’s stage designs were praised for their precise composition, dramaturgical sensitivity and ability to connect visual metaphor with the actor’s gesture.
