Stella Zázvorková

Stella Zázvorková was a Czech actress whose name is inseparably linked with the history of Czech theatre, film, and television. A graduate of the Prague Conservatory, she performed at the Divadlo Větrník, Divadlo satiry, the E. F. Burian Theatre, and at the ABC Theatre alongside Jan Werich, before spending many years at the Prague Municipal Theatres. On stage, she portrayed dozens of remarkable roles – from classics to modern plays, including productions such as Our Swaggerers, The Government Inspector, and Three Sisters. She also won the hearts of audiences with her film and television roles, for example in How to Drown Dr. Mráček or The End of Water Sprites in Bohemia, and later in Kolya, Cosy Dens, Wild Flowers, and Autumn Spring, for which she received the Czech Lion Award. She is also remembered as Mrs. Majerová in the TV series Arabela. Critics called her the “queen of Czech comedy,” and her performances were always a guarantee of humor and humanity. Stella Zázvorková remains an icon of Czech culture, entertaining and moving generations of audiences.
