Ivan Weiss
Ivan Weiss was a prominent Czech film and television director, born in Ostrava in 1921, whose career unfolded between directing, dramaturgy and shaping television productions. He was closely connected with Prague’s DAMU, where he began his career in the student theatre DISK. He later directed at the renowned Burian’s D49 Theatre, at EXDISK in Prague, as well as in Ostrava and Plzeň. He worked at the Theatre of the Czechoslovak Army (1951–1953) and, from 1964, became one of the leading directors of the Prague City Theatres.
He was known for his energetic, intelligent and actor-driven style, which resonated with audiences and critics alike. His productions, including the acclaimed Charley’s Aunt at the ABC Theatre, still reflect his distinctive directorial style and sense for stage dynamics.
