Viliam Klimáček
Viliam Klimáček is a Slovak playwright, director, and writer, one of the most prominent figures of the contemporary Slovak theatre scene. In 1985, he co-founded the Bratislava-based alternative theatre GUnaGU, where he has served as artistic director since 1995. He is the author of dozens of plays, many of which he also directs himself – writing them specifically tailored to his actors and responding to current social issues.
Viliam Klimáček’s work is characterized by sharp humour, absurd poetics, and the courage to address sensitive contemporary topics such as relationship crises, nationalism, and social trauma. In addition to theatre, he writes novels, prose, and film screenplays.
