Brecht.Cabarett
Brecht.Cabarett is a performance based on Bertolt Brecht's iconic play Drums in the Night, adapted for the stage by Andriy Bondarenko. At the centre of the story is a soldier presumed dead who suddenly returns home — his resurrection exposing an uncomfortable truth about a homefront grown weary of war, and people who have learned to carry on.
Music takes a central role throughout: songs written to Brecht's own lyrics, translated by Serhiy Zhadan — poet, writer, and soldier.
Director Oksana Dmitrieva brought the production to life as a co-production between Kyiv's Golden Gate Theatre and the Kharkiv State Academic Puppet Theatre — two cities that know what war means firsthand.
