Martina Kinská
Martina Kinská is a Czech dramaturge, playwright, and director. She completed her Master's studies in stage direction and dramaturgy at DAMU in Prague, where she subsequently finished a degree in the theory and criticism of dramatic theatre. Since 2005, she has been a member of the artistic leadership of the Švanda Theatre in Smíchov, with the exception of 2014–2016, when she served as a dramaturge for the Drama Department of the National Theatre in Prague.
In her work, she focuses on documentary theatre, historical themes, and adaptations of classical works (e.g., The Rat Catcher). She debuted as an author and director in 2015 with the play Pankrác ’45, which received an award at the Theatre Critics' Awards and was also performed in New York. She followed her directorial work with a production of The Picture of Dorian Gray and the successful title Agent Called Social, for which she received the Mark Ravenhill Prize in 2019. Her other original projects include the play Tomorrow's Funeral and the opera libretto The Nightingale and the Rose. In 2017, she guest-starred at the Brno City Theatre with an adaptation of The Žítková Goddesses.
